Instagram update addresses Android battery drain, Google confirms
Many Android users experiencing unusual battery drain can likely fix the issue by updating their Instagram app.
Google has confirmed that a recent version of Instagram was responsible for excessive power consumption on Android devices and has since released a fix.
Users are advised to update Instagram to version 382.0.0.49.84.
This update, which is rolling out widely across various Android phones including Google, Samsung, and OnePlus models, is designed to resolve the battery drain problem.
To verify if the update is installed, users can long-press the Instagram app icon, select "App info," and check the app version.
The battery drain issue appeared to particularly affect Google Pixel phones shortly after a Pixel software update in May, impacting models from the Pixel 6 to the Pixel 9.
While it was initially unclear if other Android brands or apps were involved, Google has now directed users to the Instagram update as the solution for the reported battery consumption problems.
