Dua Lipa sues Samsung for $15 million over unauthorised use of her image

Pop star Dua Lipa has launched a $15 million lawsuit against Samsung, claiming the tech giant used her image on television packaging without her permission.

The legal action, filed on May 8 in a California district court, alleges that Samsung prominently featured the singer's face on boxes for various TV models sold throughout the United States.

According to the filing, the photograph in question was taken during Lipa's 2024 performance at the Austin City Limits Festival.

The lawsuit asserts that the 30-year-old singer owns the copyright to the image and that Samsung’s packaging was intentionally designed to capitalize on her global success to drive product sales.

The singer reportedly first discovered the packaging in June 2025 after fans on social media began referring to the products as the "Dua Lipa TV Box."

The legal documents highlight several social media comments from consumers who admitted they were tempted to purchase the television simply because Lipa appeared on the box.

Lipa’s legal team stated that Samsung ignored multiple "cease and desist" demands before the lawsuit was filed. The claim includes allegations of copyright and trademark infringement, as well as the misappropriation of her likeness.

The Grammy-winning artist, who released her latest album Radical Optimism in 2024, maintains high-profile commercial partnerships with brands such as Versace, Yves Saint Laurent, and Nespresso.

Her lawyers argue that Samsung’s unauthorized use of her image interferes with her established brand collaborations. Samsung has not yet issued a formal response to the allegations.
