India-Pakistan group stage clash outstrips World Cup final in massive ticket demand
The International Cricket Council has revealed that the upcoming marquee group stage encounter between fierce South Asian rivals India and Pakistan has generated an astonishing 8.4 million ticket requests for the 2027 Cricket World Cup.
Demand for the highly anticipated clash has officially surpassed interest in the tournament’s final, underscoring the unrivalled global pull of one of sport's most intense rivalries.
The two neighbor nations are scheduled to face off on October 10, 2027, at the iconic Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg during the initial round-robin phase of the competition.
According to official figures released by the global governing body, the India-Pakistan fixture leads all matches in fan interest, while the tournament final—set to take place at the same venue on November 21—currently trails closely behind with nearly eight million applications.
This mark of unprecedented demand comes as both teams were once again drawn into the same initial group, continuing a trend seen in recent 50-over World Cups.
Fans could potentially witness up to three matchups between the sides throughout the competition, as the pair could cross paths again in the Super Seven stage and potentially in the final itself if both qualify.
The 2027 edition of the flagship tournament features twelve nations divided into two distinct pools.
Group A comprises Australia, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, and a qualifying team, while Group B features New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, England, Bangladesh, and an additional qualifier.
Spanning 57 matches across twelve venues in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, the tournament is slated to run from October 7 through November 21, 2027.
The ongoing online ticket ballot, which originally opened to the public on October 1, will remain open for supporters until midnight Central African Time on November 21.
