WhatsApp users to soon get exclusive ‘Close Friends’ sharing option
WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will let you share Status updates with a smaller, more trusted group of people, similar to Instagram’s popular "Close Friends" option. The new feature is currently being tested on iOS.
What to
Expect From the New Feature
The Close
Friends feature will create a dedicated list within your privacy settings,
making it much easier to share more personal content. Instead of manually
selecting people for each Status update, you can simply choose to share your
posts with this pre-made list.
Updates
shared with your close friends will have a different colored ring around them
to help them stand out from your regular Status updates. This gives viewers a
visual cue that the content is meant for a specific group.
Keeping Your
List Private
You have full
control over who is on your Close Friends list, and no one will be notified if
they're added or removed. This discretion allows you to manage your audience
privately and without any awkwardness.
This new feature is part of a larger effort by Meta, WhatsApp's parent company, to create a more consistent experience across its platforms, making it more convenient for users who switch between apps like Instagram and WhatsApp.
