UNDP launches free Youth for Climate Action Course 2026 for young climate leaders

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in collaboration with Eco House Global, has officially launched the Youth for Climate Action Course 2026. This free, self-paced educational initiative is designed to equip the next generation of leaders with the essential skills needed for climate advocacy, policy engagement, and community-led environmental action.

Course Overview

The program is hosted on the Learning for Nature platform and focuses on bridging the gap between youth interest and meaningful participation in environmental governance.

  • Format: Online and self-paced.

  • Languages: Available in English and Spanish.

  • Cost: Completely free of charge.

  • Philosophy: Created "by youth, for youth" to ensure the content is relevant and engaging.

Why This Initiative Matters

Young people are disproportionately affected by climate change and are expected to face more extreme weather events than any previous generation. Despite this, they are frequently excluded from:

  • Official climate policy discussions.

  • Environmental decision-making processes.

  • National and international governance frameworks.

Core Learning Objectives

Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the climate landscape through several key focus areas:

  • Climate Science: Understanding the technical foundations of global warming.

  • Strategies: Learning about climate adaptation and mitigation techniques.

  • Policy & Governance: Navigating international climate agreements and national policy processes.

  • Advocacy: Developing tools for civic participation and community-based action.

  • Leadership: Exploring pathways to influence environmental decisions at local and national levels.

Key Features of the Program

  • Global Accessibility: Open to learners worldwide with no prior climate expertise required.

  • Proven Success: Originally launched in Spanish with over 4,000 participants, the new English version aims to scale this impact globally.

  • Collaborative Environment: Learners join a global network that encourages peer engagement and cross-cultural knowledge sharing.

  • Action-Oriented: The curriculum focuses on practical outcomes, such as starting local campaigns and engaging with civil society organizations.

Target Audience

The course is specifically designed for:

  • Students and emerging environmental activists.

  • Community organizers and youth leaders.

  • Any young person interested in sustainability and climate policy.

Impact and Goals

By expanding climate literacy, the UNDP aims to foster more inclusive governance systems. This initiative contributes directly to broader global priorities, including sustainable development, youth empowerment, and the strengthening of global climate networks.

How to Join

Interested individuals can register via the Learning for Nature platform. As a self-paced course, students can start at any time and complete the modules according to their own schedule.
